Johnny has a background in academic publishing, conferences and the arts in Europe, Middle East and China

He directs the Science & Human Dimension Project at Clare Hall, Cambridge, where is a college Associate. He also works in the arts and in 2024-2025 is producer of A Cabinet of Wonders exhibition at the Palazzo Grimani in Venice.  In 2021, he was co-organiser of the Majlis exhibition at the Venice Biennale 2021, curating an interdisciplinary symposium on the Biennale theme: How we will live together? 

He was formerly director of the Rustat Conferences at Jesus College, Cambridge where he was a Senior Research Associate, producing high-level forums on a range of vital issues including Cybersecurity, Geopolitics of Energy, Food Security, Big Data, Cryptocurrencies, and the Financial Crisis, for leaders from government, industry and research. He was co-organiser of the Houghton Revisited art exhibition which won Apollo Exhibition of the Year award 2013. He began his career in publishing with Thomson Corp. in Paris and Madrid, and later worked on e-learning and information projects across the Middle East in partnership with UNESCO and the Arab League, as well as in China and Latin America. He is a graduate of University College London (French and Spanish), Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge (Economics), and has an MBA from Imperial College London.
